Suitable for external use in garden and outdoor spaces. Coverage will vary depending on the aggregate. As a rough guide, we typically suggest that one bulk bag can cover an area of 10m² if you are laying the aggregate at 50mm (5cm) depth. Remember that larger aggregates, like River Cobbles, may not go as far and are ideally suited for garden beds, borders, edging or flower pots.

FAQs

Decorative aggregates come in various types, colours, shapes and sizes but are generally small pieces of stone called chippings, gravel, shingles or pebbles. They are ideal for landscaping to add style or character to outdoor spaces, gardens or driveways.

There are several different approaches to preparing for laying decorative aggregates depending on the area, the aggregate being used and the budget. You’ll generally want the site cleared of plants or weeds, with the soil level compacted and smooth. You may wish to consider a weed barrier or membrane and gravel grid for smaller-sized chippings. For driveways, a suitable compacted sub-base is recommended to be used with a Type 1 803 and then covered with a weed suppressant.

The depth required for a decorative aggregate can vary depending on the size of the aggregate and its placement or purpose. Generally speaking, for aggregates being used for decorative purposes on paths or borders, a depth of 30-50mm is typically sufficient. For driveways, we recommend increasing this depth to 40-60mm. Smaller aggregates typically require less depth than their larger counterparts to ensure complete coverage without making the area difficult to walk or drive on.
