Description

Lime paint is a traditional interior and exterior finish used to decorate, preserve and protect walls and ceilings from the elements. Designed with the breathability of limewash but with a longer-lasting finish, this collection is vapour permeable, allowing moisture to pass through the coating.

This collection is available in 12 standard timeless colours, in stock and ready to order. An additional 12 versatile colours are available as made-to-order. Cornerstone Lime paint made-to-order colours have a minimum order quantity of 2 bags and an estimated lead time of up to five working days.

Please note that colours represented online are indicative. We recommend purchasing a sample pot and experiencing the paint first-hand before making a final selection. Available in 0.1L, 5L.

Used In Conjunction With

Application

Suitable for internal and external use. Suitable surfaces for application include lime renders, lime plasters, cement or gypsum renders or plasters, plasterboard, decorating paper, bricks, blocks, concrete, and some existing emulsion paints and timber. Always test the application on your background to ensure the product will adhere sufficiently.

Coverage is approximately 6-12m² but will vary depending on the background surface, suction and application method. The number of coats of lime paint required will vary depending on the absorbency of the background and the desired finish.

Lime paint is built-up by coat, so the more coats, the more intense the colour. We typically advise 2-4 coats over existing paint and 3-5 coats for bare plaster. Absorbent backgrounds may require additional coats.

Cornerstone Lime Paint is supplied as a blended paint powder using high calcium lime, pigments and additives requiring mixing with water. See the datasheet for further details on adding water, including additional water for high-suction backgrounds or spray applications.

Ensure your background surface is clean and free of debris before application. Background preparation will vary depending on the substrate; ensure the area is adequately dampened for porous or absorbent backgrounds. Application is advised with a high-quality brush or airless sprayer. Do not use in temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C. For detailed application guidance, please refer to the datasheet before use. FAQs

Lime paint works best on porous or absorbent backgrounds or existing limewash or lime paint. However, it can be applied over stable well adhered existing paint.

There is no need to prime before applying lime paint; however, we recommend dampening the surface with water beforehand, especially for porous backgrounds, as this helps with suction.

The number of coats of lime paint required will vary depending on the absorbency of the background and the desired finish. Lime paint is built-up by coat, so the more coats, the more intense the colour and the more durable the finish. We typically advise 2-4 coats over existing paint and 3-5 coats for bare plaster. Absorbent backgrounds may require additional coats.

Lime paint is a great option worth considering for damp walls. It’s highly vapour permeable and will allow moisture to escape, providing the underlying plaster allows for this.
