Description
This is a black grit recycled from a waste stream and produced to British Standards making it more than fit for our purpose as an inclusion in mortars. We have found it useful in mortar matching when we want to create a textured surface similar to that of coal inclusions. We have trialed crushed coal and charcoal in the past, however; we haven’t found it suitable as it can swell and create stains, this grit is a more than satisfactory alternative, without the negative consequences.

Application
We normally advise addition rates to suit the matched mortar, this is often between 2% and 15% but we have found some blends with higher requirements of 35-40%; this is the exception to normal and if you need a high addition rate please contact us as large quantities of a mono-size aggregate can negatively affect mortar performance. This aggregate should be used as a replacement for sand by volume; you will need to reduce your sand content by an equivalent volume.
