Hi quick question…. I’m trying to get a small extension on the back of my cottage rebuilt. A couple of builders have had a look but not got back to me with estimates after seeing it needs to be tied into the old 200+ years old building which is a hotch-potch of stone and cob. Is this difficult or are they maybe just not experienced with this? Not bothered whether new bit will be block or timber frame and render at this stage.
Thank you for your question. As we have not seen the project and are not structural engineers we cannot say for sure but we would suggest the use of appropriate mechanical fixings, such as helical bars, to tie the new extension to the older wall which should be relatively straightforward.
