Hi – I am doing a renovation of a coach house and it is rendered with sand and cement. One side has had water damage from a failed valley so I am taking the render off to re-render in lime. However the other sides seem sound and it may be difficult taking off the old render as it is hard/secure, without damaging the bricks underneath. is it possible/advisable to render over a secure Sand cement render for aesthetics or does the whole lot have to come off?
if it is what would be the advisable depth of the render over the existing?
The walls with the existing secure render show little sign of cracks/damage and are sheltered from the weather. The wall which Is water damaged is subject to the prevailing wind and rain.
Thank you for your enquiry. If the existing render is secure, has adequate absorbency/suction and is rough enough or has a sufficient key to take a new render then you could apply a fresh coat over the top. Please let us know if we can be of further help.
