I have an old thatched cottage and when it was being re-thatched some of the plaster fell off the sloping ceiling/walls. It has exposed the laths and the plaster surrounding the openings is very crumbly. What is the best product/s to use to remedy the large holes and some missing laths?
Thank you for getting in touch.
We would suggest you chose our CLM28 fibred putty mix for your first coat onto the laths, CLM28 as your second coat and then CLM66 as a fine plaster for your third and final coat. These products can be found here: https://cornishlime.co.uk/products/lime-mortars/.
Alternatively we have the Woodlath Render, CLD30 and CLD/M 66.
We also supply lath which you can view here – https://cornishlime.co.uk/products/associated-products/lath/ and would always recommend a riven lath for ceiling work.
Please also find a link to our three coat render article which explains a little more about the necessary coats: https://cornishlime.co.uk/application-guides/apply-three-coat-lime-render/
The crumbling is likely age and disruption in the background due to the work being done. If we can be of further assistance please get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
