hello I’m restoring a fireplace, which I’ve just found behind sone plasterboard walls in my 1910 Cornish cottage. I want to line plaster it, but it’s a mix of old red brick and Cornish stone. Can I lime plaster the brick? It’s pretty scruffy inside the fireplace so I’m planning to plaster that too. Would the plaster stand a woodburner if I were to got one at a later date? What plaster would you recommend? I’ve got some insulating line plaster from you in the attic but it is 18 months old, would that still be usable? I would attach a photo but it won’t let me. Cheers.
Thanks for getting in touch. The Insulating Render that you have is out of date and we would not recommend using it. Also, because of the fibres in it it’s not really suitable for fireplaces.
We would suggest you use our CLM28 ready mixed putty mortar for the basecoats and our CLM66 topcoat for a smooth finish. Alternatively you could use our Drymix NHL2 product. Both will be find over the bricks.
Please let us know if you needed anything further.
