Most of the advice I have found for using lime mortar is to keep it as dry as possible to avoid shrinkage, but this generally appears to be focused on rendering or repointing. How should shrinkage be avoided if a wetter mix is needed to lay new bricks when repairing a wall?
Thanks for getting in touch. We would advise soaking the bricks beforehand, keep the pointing damp for at least 1 week and use hessian to keep the moisture in and prevent wind and sun drying.
If you need further assistance please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We have hessian and all the pointing products available to purchase online or you are welcome to call us on 01208 79779.
That’s great. Many thanks for the advice.
