Phil Brown

Phil is the founder and Managing Director of Cornish Lime, with over four decades of experience within the construction industry and the manufacture and use of lime-based materials.

Expertise

  • Building conservation and restoration
  • Building materials
  • Lime pointing, rendering and plastering
  • Onsite consultancy

Experience

After completing a successful apprenticeship early in his career, Phil founded a building company, Darrock and Brown, in the early 1980s. Working hands-on with older buildings and seeing how inappropriate care and repair can impact a structure, Phil began what would become three decades of research, passion, and enthusiasm to learn more about traditional construction methods and, of course, the founding of Cornish Lime.

Education

Phil completed a post-graduate course in Building Conservation at Plymouth University. More importantly, during his extensive career, Phil has travelled Europe and abroad, visiting hundreds of sites and attending countless seminars and masterclasses hosted by prestigious organisations, including English Heritage and the Building Limes Forum. Phil now hosts several of our popular lime pointing, rendering and plastering courses, where he enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience.
